Overview

MyBloomed (mybloomed.ca) is a live healthcare e-commerce platform delivering supplements and prescription items to patients across Canada. It runs on a WooCommerce backbone with 50+ products, and handles prescription validation, PHIPA-compliant data flows, and EMR system integration.

The Problem

Healthcare e-commerce is not retail. Products need prescription validation before checkout, patient data has to meet PHIPA standards, and the approval flow has to move between doctors, admins, and patients without anyone forwarding an email by hand.

My Role

Led development from architecture to launch: the product conditional logic, the EMR integration points, and the security configuration. Also worked with the client on planning future service expansions.

Challenges

Compliance and product logic had to coexist. Conditional WooCommerce logic for prescription visibility is fiddly, and I had to walk every checkout path to see how it handled patient data.

What I Learned

The conditional prescription logic would have been cleaner as a small custom plugin than as layers of WooCommerce configuration. I'd build it that way next time.
